Teacher scholars present at Bay Area Science Project’s Saturday Seminar
Our teacher scholars Laura Alvarez and Krishna Feeney presented at the Bay Area Science Project’s Saturday Seminar on March 23, 2013. Laura teaches seventh grade humanities at Melrose Leadership Academy in Oakland. Her presentation, “Looking at academic language across the ‘mode continuum,’” addressed the tensions teachers face as they teach content, language, and literacy. Laura is both a Mills Teacher Scholars Program Associate, and a participant in the MTS Melrose Leadership Academy school site group.
Krishna is math department chair at Montera Middle School in Oakland. Her presentation, “Proposing and supporting conjectures,” explored the use of hands-on tools to help students create and support conjectures using problems involving angles formed by intersecting lines.
