Student-Centered, Classroom-Based Learning
Our approach grounds adult learning in the classroom. Teaching improves when we better understand who our students are and how they think and learn.
Our partners pursue core questions like these to better understand student learning:
- What is happening for students?
- How are students thinking and what are they wondering?
- What are the social emotional learning competencies that are assumed in the instructional routines and how can we support students to build these skills?
- What do we hope happens?
- What shifts can be made to move reality closer to the vision for students’ learning?
Instead of standardizing implementation of best practices, a student-centered approach allows teachers and leaders to give attention to the specific needs of the classroom and connect teaching practices to what we know about individual students. This way, all students are seen as unique individuals.
