Organizational Relationships:

Reports to: Lead by Learning Executive Director  

Summary of Position:

Lead by Learning is scaling. We are seeking an outstanding, experienced leader to build our community engagement work; support and lead Lead by Learning’s marketing, communications, and influence strategy; and support fundraising efforts. 

Responsibilities

 

FUNDRAISING/DEVELOPMENT (40 PERCENT TIME)

Development Strategy 

In collaboration with Lead by Learning’s Executive Director,

  • Organize and build the Lead by Learning development strategy to achieve current and long-term (3-5 year) goals for growth 
  • Translate high-level donor strategy into detailed annual implementation plan, including activities, priorities and milestones
  • Establish systems, processes, and tools to effectively implement development activities, including donor records, activities and priorities
  • Provide administrative and project management support for the advisory board 

 

Operationalize Development Systems

With the Executive Director:

  • Develop system and tools to ensure robust cultivation and stewardship of funders and donors
  • Ensure successful implementation of development strategy through systems development, clear team responsibilities and timelines
  • Monitor Lead by Learning’s progress towards development goals, identify what is driving and impeding progress, develop solutions to address gaps and adjust course as necessary
  • Maintain the current donor database and development records, including requests, acknowledgements, and reporting requirements 
  • Identify structures to streamline development operations and workflow 
  • Lead the implementation to the new donor record system (Lead by Learning may be migrating to NetSuite as a shadow financial and donor system. This is still a tentative activity)

 

Donor Cultivation & Stewardship

With the Executive Director:

  • Develop effective identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies of new donor prospects, current donors, and other supporters
  • Support Lead by Learning’s and Mills School of Education’s leadership to build key donor relationships, strategically leveraging their time and workflow
  • Coordinate donor cultivation activities, including planning and administration of tours, events, and meetings to communicate Lead by Learning’s work to supporters to meet organizational goals
  • Develop and manage a system for regular written communications at every stage in the continuum, from identification through stewardship 
  • Draft formal and informal written communications, including letters of introduction, grant proposals, grant reports, donor correspondence, prospect research briefs, organizational updates. This includes coordinating with Lead by Learning’s Budget Manager and Program Directors to ensure thorough and timely submissions
  • Develop and implement donor and supporter communications calendar, ensuring regular touch points. 

 

For all of these areas, the Associate Director of Community Engagement, Marketing and Communications, and Development will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with program and functional leads from across the organization 
  • Developing and managing project plans, including coordination of other resources
  • Reporting regularly on progress
  • Managing project budgets
  • Soliciting regular feedback to improve effectiveness and progress towards goals

 

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS (35 PERCENT TIME)

Narrative/Storytelling

Work with the Executive Director to:

  • Create an updated and powerful strategic narrative for the organization
  • Strengthen brand identity through the development of consistent stories that support our core mission, vision, values, and actions
  • Develop and oversee the production of the annual report to reinforce the stories and impact

 

Digital Marketing

Work with the Executive Director to:

  • Develop and implement a social media strategy and manage presence on sites including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok
  • Oversee social media campaigns to tell the Lead by Learning story including highlights of schools, educators, and families and students
  • Work with Budget Manager to promote revenue generating programs
  • Monitor effectiveness of the impact of digital media through analysis (Google analytics) and review of reporting results to maximize effects and reach, report monthly
  • Develop a strategy and calendar to share highlights of the organization to engage a variety of readers including educators, parents, donors, and community members
  • Collect, write, and share authentic stories that foster credibility/trust. Use stories to build and enhance relationships to facilitate conversation with stakeholders
  • Manage the monthly newsletter – both developing content and managing timeline and deliverables
  • Manage digital and print asset creation, as well as content creation, for marketing courses, webinars, programs, events, workshops, and site/district partnerships.
  • Manage the website

 

Influence

Work with Director of Strategy and Influence to

  • Establish Lead by Learning as a leader in educator education and increase presence with other educational public learning, and nonprofit organizations
  • Collaborate with like-minded organizations, and finding new partners nationwide
  • Use blog on a regular basis to advocate for the importance of public learning
  • Identify strategic conferences to attend/present at and publications to submit to coordinate with Lead by Learning staff and Mills College School of Education to submit conference applications, briefs and publications

 

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EFFORTS (15 PERCENT TIME)

 

Lead engagement efforts in the community

  • Cultivate positive relationships with core community stakeholders [community leaders, politicians, school administration (school boards, superintendents, etc.) parent leaders, highly regarded educators, philanthropic community, etc.] in order to drive high-impact community engagement and long-lasting adoptive impact
  • Help recruit staff, advisory board members, and ambassadors from the community
  • Support local, regional, and national advocacy work
  • Represent Lead by Learning at events, conferences, and meetings
  • Support staff in understanding educational community needs and strengths

Ensure excellent family support and engagement

(Parents as the First Teachers will acquire an understanding of Public Learning as community ambassadors and advisors)

Note: This portion of the work is not yet active and must be created over time

  • Serve as main touch point for families in all phases of the program at child’s school to ensure parents are highly engaged and getting their needs met
  • Coordinate the delivery of education supports for children and families
  • Ensure frequent, consistent communication with families, including through email, phone calls, and zoom calls
  • Engage and leads parents in public learning where districts and schools see a necessity 
  • Oversee all major parent and community events

 

Develop long-term plan for family engagement

  • Work with Lead by Learning team to define  common, best practices for what effective family engagement looks like within a professional learning organization
  • Strategize with Directors around how Parents as the First Teachers will acquire an understanding of Public Learning as community ambassadors and advisors

 

Recruitment and Enrollment

  • Lead all family recruitment efforts in districts and schools that wish to engage their parents and caregivers
  • Ensure that families that have the most to benefit from the Lead by Learning model represent a majority of enrollment pool
  • Manage administrative and operational aspects of enrollment (family onboarding, family intake process and data collection, development and tracking of family/student database)
  • Ensure families continue to attend and participate in the program; lead efforts to retain students and families

 

Communication and Partnerships

  • Support educational administrators and Lead by Learning Directors in ensuring that the academic, enrichment, and behavioral practices at the school reflect the diversity and culture of the students and families
  • Understand the interests, motivations, and concerns of the community, gather and analyze data to develop insights and recommendations, and guide the direction of the school and its initiatives to inform public learning agenda
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships with other organizations for broader community benefit
  • Help set, deliver, and monitor goals for community and family engagement and impact
  • Map the space of local and national service providers and build partnerships to give educators access to a broad array of critical information
